Unfortunately, terrible news continues to arrive from the United States on the subject of forgotten children in cars under the sun, with tragic consequences. At the end of June, in Springfield, Virginia, an 11-month-old girl died because her father “inadvertently left her in the car for a long period of time. Here you can read the complete news in Italian . Even more recent are the deaths of two other American children: on July 4 happened to a 17-month-old girl in Oklahoma City, while on July 8 the drama was repeated in Fullerton, California, with the umpteenth death of a child abandoned in a car under the summer heatwave by his parents, as you can read in this article in English. Also from the United States comes the site kids and cars entirely dedicated to the safety of children in cars. On the site there are several contents related to these horrible deaths, such as this table that sadly keeps the number of victims in the USA in 2020 alone. Chilling the testimonies of parents or grandparents who lost grandchildren or children in the past due to dissociative amnesia, an example is this video (in English). Fortunately, in the USA as in other countries of the world, the debate on the need to introduce mandatory anti abandonment systems is very heated. For our part, we can only hope that common sense will prevail and that, as happened in Italy, the law will put an end to this senseless slaughter that could be easily avoided. Because, let us remember it once again, any parent, even the most scrupulous, can be the victim of dissociative amnesia, especially if they are going through a particularly stressful or complicated period.
